Four pianists, including Simona Premazzi, the phenomenal pianist from New York City, come together for an unprecedented piano tribute to Cecil Taylor…Vocalist Mwenso & the Shakes, an exciting international 10-piece ensemble with a big sound.     What excites you about this year’s lineup that you want to share with the festival goers? Next year, we’re looking to increase the density of performances, making it more of a “Week’s End” destination event. With one week, there is time to take in the music–one act at a time. People love having a full week of music all around the city. What were the best things you learned last year about moving to a full week? This is the second year of the switch to a week-long program of jazz performances. Recently, I had the chance to catch up with Walter to talk about this year’s 2018 CMC Jazz Festival: An ardent supporter of the Colored Musicians Club and the idiom of jazz, Walter has been instrumental in shaping the CMC Jazz Festival into a week-long community program. In addition to his noteworthy endeavors with the innovative Walter Kemp 3oh! jazz trio and the jazz group Gruvology, Walter serves as the Music Director for the CMC Jazz Festival. One of the driving forces behind the CMC Jazz Festival is musician extraordinaire Walter Kemp, III.
